"Who we are and What we do"
The Thunder of the East is UB's most visible performing ensemble. The Band performs at all home football games as well as local appearances and select away games. The Thunder of the East is a "drum corps" style marching ensemble that incorporates traditional marching band instrumentation: woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The musicians of the band are accompanied on-field by a sensational color-guard (flags), dance team, and twirlers.
Membership in the band is open to all University at Buffalo students without audition regardless of major.

Woodwinds: Flute, Piccolo, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax
Brass: Trumpet, Mellophone (Horn), Trombone, Baritone, Tuba
Drumline: Snare, Quints, Bass Drum, Cymbals
Percussion Pit: Marimba, Xylophone, Timpani, Auxillary Perc.
Visual: Colorguard (Flags), Dancers, Twirlers
