UB Dazzlers - Dance Team
Who are we?
Members of our team have a diverse background. Some members have been trained in dance, some have participated on competitive cheerleading squads, and other members have experience in kick line. The Dazzlers diversity is what makes our team great, because we draw on each other's strengths to succeed.
What do we do?
The UB Dance Team entertains the crowd at UB Athletics events as part of the University at Buffalo Spirit Team. Approximately 16-20 girls are chosen to be a part of the UB Dazzlers for the football and basketball seasons. The team incorporates pom, jazz, and hip-hop dance styles. In addition to athletic events, the dancers participate in many on and off campus functions ranging from pep rallies, open house, alumni gatherings, and charity events.
Fall: During the football season, the Dazzlers can be seen entertaining the crowd on the sidelines throughout the game. In addition, they perform during every halftime show to the music of Thunder of the East Marching Band. The Dazzlers can be seen on True Blue Avenue participating in the March to Victory 2 hours before kick-off.
Spring: During basketball season, the team continues to rev up the crowd during the men's and women's games. They are also featured at various timeouts and halftimes. The UB Dazzlers also travel to the Mid-American Conference Tournament in Cleveland, OH to cheer on the UB Bulls in post-season play.
Mission
As a Dazzler, you have the opportunity to continue your passion for dance while you enjoy the experiences of college life. Members of the UB Dance Team, the "UB Dazzlers", are excellent ambassadors of the University at Buffalo, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Department of Athletics.
Technique Requirements:
Pirouettes (solid double, working towards triple), high kicks, grand jete, splits, jumps, and sharp movements will be incorporated in auditions. Ala seconds or foutte turns are strongly encouraged. Ability to pick up choreography quickly is a must as our season moves very quickly.
The Dazzlers are part of the UB Spirit team. We are looking for positive, energetic dancers who wish to dance and cheer on our UB Bulls during all home football and basketball games. Decisions will be based on the entire package.
If I make the team, when will I start practices?
The UB Dazzlers, in conjunction with the UB Marching Band, have mandatory camp the week before the fall semester begins. August 17-25, 2013.
The team practices M, W, F 6:30-8:30 pm throughout the semester. Additional practices may occur throughout the season.
Is there any cost to being on the UB Dazzlers?
There are a few things that you may need to pay for, but we try to do as much fund raising as possible. Costs can include, dance shoes and cost for UDA Dance Camp in August. Uniforms, poms, and travel to off campus games are paid for by the university.
Scholarships:
The UB Dazzlers do not currently have scholarships, however we have stipends for those who participate in football season. Veterans receive $175, while first year members receive $125.
Also, Dazzlers can elect to take this as a two credit course by registering for MUS 130.
